I am Jacqueline Boot, a psychotherapist in private practice trading as Jackie Boot Psychotherapy. I am the data controller for the personal information described in this policy, which means I decide how and why it is used.

What this policy covers
This policy explains what happens to your information when you visit my website. It covers the technical information collected automatically as you browse, the cookies used on the site, and what happens to the details you send me if you complete my enquiry form.
This policy is separate from my client privacy notice, which explains how I handle your information once you contact me about therapy and throughout our work together. If you make an enquiry, both documents apply: this one covers the website itself, and the client privacy notice covers what I then do with your enquiry. A copy of the client privacy notice is available on request and is provided to all clients.
I comply with applicable data protection law including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018, and the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003.
Who hosts my website
My website is built and hosted on Squarespace. For UK and European customers, the Squarespace service is provided by Squarespace Ireland Limited, Squarespace House, Ship Street Great, Dublin 8, Ireland.
Squarespace acts as my data processor, which means it handles information on my behalf and under my instructions. Squarespace also acts as an independent data controller for some of the technical information it collects automatically from visitors, such as IP addresses, where it uses that information for its own purposes of keeping its services secure and working properly.
Squarespace’s own privacy policy explains this, and its Data Processing Addendum sets out the terms under which it processes information for me.
I do not use any other third-party services to run this website. I do not use Google Analytics, advertising pixels, or social media tracking tools.
Information collected automatically when you visit
Squarespace collects standard technical information about visits to my website. This includes your browser, network and device information, the web page that referred you, the pages you view, your IP address, clicks, use of internal links, scrolling, any searches you make on the site, and the times of that activity.
This information is used to give me basic statistics about how my website is being used, such as how many people visit and which pages are most viewed. I use it only to understand whether my website is working well and reaching the people who might need it.
I do not use this information to identify individual visits, and do not attempt to link it to anyone who later becomes a client.
Cookies
A cookie is a small file placed on your device when you visit a website. My website uses two kinds.
Strictly necessary cookies. These are needed for the website to work properly and to keep it secure. They are set automatically and do not require your consent. They include cookies used for security and to protect against fraudulent form submissions.
Analytics cookies. These help me understand how visitors use the site. They are not essential, and are only set if you agree to them. The analytics cookies Squarespace uses are:

A further cookie, ss_performancecookiesAllowed, may be stored for 30 days to remember your cookie choice so that you are not asked again on every visit.
Your cookie choices
When you first visit my website you will see a cookie banner. Analytics cookies are not set unless you accept them. You can change your mind at any time by returning to the cookie preference on the site.
You can also control or delete cookies through your browser settings Blocking all cookies may affect how parts of the website work. Guidance on managing cookies in you browser is available from the ICO at ico.org.uk.
If you use my enquiry form
If you complete the enquiry form on my website, the information you provide is sent to me by email and is also stored within my Squarespace account so that I have a record of enquiries I have received.
Please only include the information you are comfortable sharing at this stage. You do not need to give me detailed information about your health or personal circumstances in order to make an initial enquiry, and I would encourage you not to. There will be a space to talk about that safely once we are in contact.
I use the details you send only to respond to your enquiry and to consider whether I may be able to offer you therapy. If we do not go on to work together, I will usually delete your enquiry details within one month, unless I need to keep them for a legitimate reason such as a legal or professional obligation.
If we do go on to work together, your information will then be handled in the way described in my client privacy notice, which I will give you at the start of our work.
What I do not do
I do not send marketing emails or newsletters.
I do not sell, rent or share your information with anyone for marketing purposes.
I do not use advertising cookies, retargeting, or social media tracking pixels on this website.
Information sent outside the UK
Squarespace is a US-headquartered company, and some of the technical information described in this policy may be transferred to or accessed from the United States.
Where this happens, the transfer is protected by recognised safeguards. Squarespace, Inc. self-certifies under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and the UK Extension to it. Squarespace’s Data Processing Addendum also incorporates the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses together with the UK International Data Transfer Addendum approved by the ICO.
How long information is kept
Enquiry form submissions are kept for as long as needed to respond to you, and are usually deleted within one month if we do not go on to work together.
Website analytics information is held in line with the cookie durations set out above, which is up to two years for the longest-lived analytics cookies.
If you become a client, the retention periods set out in my client privacy notice will apply to your therapy record.
Your rights
You have rights in relation to your personal information. These include:
The right to ask what information I hold about you. I will normally respond within one month.
The right to ask for corrections if you believe information I hold about you is inaccurate.
The right to ask for your information to be erased in certain circumstances.
The right to ask me to limit how I use your information or to stop using it in some circumstances.
The right to withdraw your consent to analytics cookies at any time, by changing your cookie preferences on the site.
The right to make a complaint about my handling of your information. I would encourage you to raise any concerns with me first so that we can try to resolve them. If you remain unhappy, you can contact the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this policy
I may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes to my website or to data protection law. The date below shows when it was last reviewed.
